The College of General Dentistry (CGDent) has been steadily shaping its identity. This month, it launched “Our mission and vision for dentistry” — a statement that outlines its purpose and values as it grows into a key voice in UK general dental care.
Rather than taking on the role of a regulator or a union, CGDent seeks to support high-quality, patient-focused care through education, advocacy and leadership. Their approach complements existing bodies like the General Dental Council (GDC) and the BDA.
Some of the College’s core values include:
For dental professionals, this could mean better access to structured support, clearer professional expectations, and improved continuing professional development. For patients, it signals a focus on safety and long-term care.
One of CGDent’s long-term goals is to become a Royal College. They recently secured a grant of Arms, an important step toward that ambition.
The College is moving from its foundational phase into a period of influence. With clearly defined goals and values, it’s aiming to become a trusted and respected presence in UK dentistry.
